يتداول داخل كواليس الأمم المتحدة حديث متزايد حول اقتراب حصول المملكة المغربية على مقعد دائم في مجلس الأمن الدولي، بوصفها ممثلًا عن القارة الإفريقية، في إطار الإصلاح المرتقب لهيكلة المجلس.
وكانت المملكة المغربية قد عبّرت، قبل أشهر، عن طموحها المشروع في نيل هذه العضوية، حيث صرّح السفير الممثل الدائم للمغرب لدى الأمم المتحدة، عمر هلال، بأن “المملكة مؤهلة لأن تصبح عضوًا دائمًا في مجلس الأمن، لأن المعيار الأساسي هو المساهمة الفعلية في حفظ السلام والأمن عبر العالم”.
ويبرز المغرب بالفعل كأحد أبرز المرشحين الأفارقة بفضل موقعه ودوره المتنامي في القارة.
وفي شتنبر 2024، أعلنت الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية رسميًا دعمها لإضافة مقعدين دائمين جديدين لدول إفريقية في مجلس الأمن، في خطوة تعكس وعي واشنطن المتزايد بضرورة تمثيل عادل ومتوازن لإفريقيا داخل أجهزة القرار الأممي، وقد يُمهّد ذلك الطريق أمام دخول المغرب ضمن المنظومة الدائمة للمجلس.
ويرى مراقبون أن هذا المسار يشكّل تتويجًا لجهود الدبلوماسية المغربية خلال العقدين الأخيرين، تحت قيادة الملك محمد السادس، حيث رسّخ المغرب مكانته كفاعل إفريقي محوري في مجالات التعاون والتنمية والوساطة، إضافة إلى مشاركته النشطة في بعثات حفظ السلام الأممية، ما يجعله مرشحًا طبيعيًا ومؤهلًا لهذا الدور العالمي المتقدم.
