كشفت منظمتا الصحة العالمية و”اليونيسيف” أن نحو ربع سكان العالم يفتقرون إلى مياه الشرب الآمنة، وذلك رغم التقدم المحرز على مدى العقد الماضي في هذا المجال.
وسلط تقرير جديد صدر بمناسبة “أسبوع المياه العالمي”، الضوء على استمرار أوجه عدم المساواة وإهمال المجتمعات الهشة، حيث يفتقر أزيد من ملياري شخص عبر العالم إلى مياه صالحة للشرب وخدمات الصرف الصحي، مما يعرضهم لخطر الإصابة بالأمراض وزيادة التهميش الاجتماعي.
وأفاد التقرير بأن 2,1 مليار شخص عبر العالم لا يتوفرون على المياه النظيفة، كما يفتقر 3,4 مليارات شخص إلى الصرف الصحي، فيما يفتقر 1,7 مليار شخص إلى خدمات النظافة الأساسية.
ودعا التقرير إلى بذل مزيد من الجهود لتوفير مياه الشرب وخدمات الصرف الصحي للجميع، مع بداية السنوات الخمس الأخيرة من فترة تحقيق أهداف التنمية المستدامة.
