أكد فريق من الخبراء الصحيين والعلماء في تقرير لهم أن المتحور أوميكرون السريع الانتشار زاد من الحاجة إلى مليارات الجرعات الإضافية من اللقاحات لحماية الفئات المعرضة للخطر والحد من المتحورات الجديدة في جميع أنحاء العالم.
وكتب مؤلفو التقرير، الذي نشرته صحيفة “واشنطن بوست” الأمريكية أن “الدليل العلمي واضح، حيث فقط من خلال النشر العالمي للقاحات الأكثر فعالية حاليا ضد العدوى، سنكون قادرين على إعاقة تطور الفيروس والبدء في السيطرة على الجائحة عالميا”.
واستنتج المؤلفون أن هناك حاجة الآن إلى حوالي 22 مليار جرعة من اللقاحات لإبطاء انتشار الوباء، نظرا لقدرة متحور أوميكرون على التهرب من بعض أشكال الحماية المناعية التي منحتها جرعات التطعيم السابقة. ويستلزم هذا التوقع إنتاج 15 مليار جرعة إضافية من اللقاحات هذا العام.
وأشارت الصحيفة إلى أن هذه الدعوة لتوفير مليارات الجرعات الإضافية من اللقاحات تفوق الأهداف التي وضعها قادة العالم، الذين حددوا هدفا يتمثل في “التطعيم الكامل” لـ 70 بالمائة من سكان العالم بحلول هذا الخريف من خلال مجموعة متنوعة من اللقاحات.
وتم بالفعل إعطاء أكثر من 9 مليارات جرعة لقاح على مستوى العالم، وحصل حوالي 50 بالمائة من سكان العالم على التطعيم الكامل.، وفقا لبيانات مشروع “Our World in Data” التابع لجامعة أكسفورد.
